Stuff I should be reading
Nov. 6th, 2003 08:35 amAs always I have a huge stack of books I should be reading sometime soon. I could talk about the book I just finished (Infinite Jest) or the fact I just read 5 of the tpbs for 100 Bullets, but its more fun to discuss what I want to read next.
Hiding the Elephant by Jim Steinmayer. Steinmayer, who designs illusions for the likes of Ricky Jay, has written a history of the "golden age" of stage magic, complete with extended discussions of how the most famous illusions worked. This one promises to be full of fascinating tidbits, and it will be my next read.
JG Ballard has a new novel Millennium People (London: Flamingo, 2003) which is all about the middle class as the 'new proletariat', and how the British class system has prevented social revolution. There is a great interview
