This flowchart breakdown of the traitional James Bond movie structure is quite good. I like this sort of graphical representation of plot structure and I wish it use was adopted in more game products. If I was a better person when it came to game prep I'd do that sort of thing more often.

It's by Charlie Stross, whose Family Trade novels I should read sometime. His Cthulu-spy-geekulfillment novel was a fun read (not great but fun).

I have always found that plot prep doesn't work the way it does in a book or screenplay, as the player inevitably will go off on a tangent that isn't on the plan and that will become the main action.

I find that if I have a visual representation its easier for me to crisis manage when that does happen.

Thanks for the ref. I remember the old James Bond RPG stressed the importance of the opening action sequence.

I just finished the two Family Trade books. I haven't read that other one you mentioned, but I'd rate them similarly (not great but fun). I actually like Hite's summary (http://www.livejournal.com/users/princeofcairo/41566.html?thread=408926#t408926): "I enjoyed [it] perhaps beyond its merits".
