We went to Crane Beach up in Ipswich today. It was my first time there and it was very nice - I'd go again. We ended up spending about 6 hours there, and much fun was had by all. The starchild found the joys of sand, including scooting on it, digging it, rollng in it, eating it and burying herself in it. The boy enjoyed balsa wood airplanes and sand castles. I think we even spent a far amount of time in the brisk ocean. It was a beautiful day for it.

On the way back we wanted ice cream, and since we couldn't find any in Ipswich we decided to stop in Salem. Not the best idea. I think I've finally pegged what bothers me about that town, its a scuzzy town trying to pretend its reinvented itself based on sleazy fake history. Oh and it doesn't have nearly enough good ice cream stores. The boy got to go on an old three masted ship so he was happy though.

Now we're hme and the kids are in bed and [livejournal.com profile] peaseblossom and I are rather zoned out.

Sounds like a nice day. Too zoned out for mellow company? [livejournal.com profile] jeffwik and I were thinking about downing some beer. We could present booze and other treats, if you were so inclined.

Oh we're pretty mellow and intend to go to sleep as soon as the sun goes down so we will have to take a rain check.

No problem. I'm starting to feel that way myself. :)

Sounds gorgeous, and my kind of beach. How's the access, though? I haven't been along 128 for a while.. I'd be coming from Rt. 2 west. And I wonder if the parking lot fills up fast.. it seems awfully small.

Getting there was pretty easy, the other roads off 128 weren't that bad. Basic Mass roads through towns. Parking was fine, when we left at close to 4 the parking lot was less tha half ull, so I doubt they ever got to peak. So on a hotter day they just might, but it was 4th of July weekend.

I like getting to beaches early in the morning and staing trough the hot part of the day (if I am going to the ocean I like making it a day affair) and it apeared that getting in by 10 sould always be rather easy.

Same here. I particularly enjoy beaches in the early morning, and I especially enjoy beaches like Crane's. I'm not often in the northeastern part of the state and the only beach I've ever seen up there (aside from Salisbury) was a rocky one north of Cape Ann. Crane looks like a jewel that I definitely want to check out this summer. I'm glad I came across your post, since in the past I've mostly limited myself to Ogunquit but that's a long drive for only one day and like you, I prefer to make it a day-long affair. Thanks muchly!
