Because a lot of people I respect said reading Butcher was not as bad as I might have made it, and because I had nothing better to do at yesterdays company picnic I read Fool Moon which I found, as second novels usually are, much weaker and less enjoyable than the first. Though I must give him credit for dealing with the variety of European werewolf stories in a nice and rather taxonomic way. And then introducing just about every single one of them in the story.

The book from which I got to do illustrations for the RPG is Summer Knight, which everyone should read just to appreciate the boundless glory of my drawings. ;-)

I never understood why there was a need for a rpg based on these books.

I like this series -- and I was impressed both by the way he's escalating the stories, and by the fact that he is escalating them. Like Simon Green's Haven stuff -- instead of just writing more of the same old, he bumps up the stakes each time.

And as far as sub-Marlovian prose... well, it's not as terrible as it could be. It's better than Greg Cook's Garrett stuff, I think.
