Let’s run a game of Revisionist History starting this month.

I’ll open by saying I think we should have two rounds a week: Tuesday and Friday. Though if I could get a large degree of excitement about it I’d say three rounds a week at MWF. But lets be frank, this level of participation is hard to get and I think two rounds a week gives ample opportunity for development of articles. What the play period does is set a speed limit for earning tokens and investing them, so those who want to do more during that period certainly can.

For general period and setting I’m in a 20-esque mood but when it comes to history I’m game for most anything. The question for me is do we want to set any guidelines on genre or style or do we just want to leave it wide open. Me, I’d love to leave it wide open and see what develops.

So let’s hear a round up of folks who are interested and talk out the details. Folks had indicated in the past that they were interested in starting next week.

It looks like in the next month or so I'm going to be running a short-term play-by-email myself, so I'll have to watch this one from the sidelines, sadly.

Mine will be cooler, just saying.

I'm interested, though I did not indicate as much earlier - if that debars me, I'll content myself as a lurker. I'm also very good with a 20's setting.

So Tuesday for initial drafts, Friday for challenges?

Hrm...the 20's...well, at least there are zeppelins.

I think I'm interested in this.

From the rules:

For each play period in which you post a primary article that relies on direct sources you earn 3 tokens for your research fund and are allowed to invest 1 in a source rating.

For each play period in which you post a primary article that relies on indirect sources, you earn 1 token to add to your research fund and you are allowed to invest up to 3 tokens in source ratings.

For each play period in which you post a challenging article you earn 2 tokens for your research fund and you are allowed to invest 2 tokens in source ratings.

Your earning and investing privileges are determined by the first article you post in a play period. You do not earn further tokens or investing privileges for subsequent articles within the same play period, but you may publish as many as you wish.

So, if we went with 2 roudns a week you would do that in each round. You can post as many articles in a round as you wish but only the first article counts for points.

The next weeks have gotten hairier than expected. I need to read the rules and see if I can budget the time.

Does the game look like it'll tolerate late entries, or dropouts, the way that lexicons (mostly) do?

I think it will be even more tolerant as the only impact on the game is the rating of the given scholar if you don't post. You don't get phantoms hanging out there and unused.

I've never tried a constrained writing game, but this sounds fun and I'd like to participate. I also agree that leaving it wide open for genre and style will be fun. However, I won't be able to participate for about two weeks in October for my wedding and honeymoon. If that's not too much of a problem, count me in.
