Okay I'm sitting here downloading Teen Titan episodes, and I'm watching the Homecoming, with the Doom Patrol, and frankly I'm confused. I get replacing the Chief with an active version of Mento. What I don't get (and I had this feeling from reading one of the boy's comics) is why the team is being portrayed in such an authoritarian light. What am I missing in this translation?

And yes, I am colossally wasting time tonight.

The problem seems to be that the producers were adapting the original Doom Patrol comics a bit too closely, rather than the looser retelling they had been using so far. Authentic 1960s plot and characterization by fiat!

I've read the original line, and not even the chief was as bossy as they are making Mento.

Maybe they confused the fake Mento (http://www.comics-db.com/comic-book/1017116-The_Doom_Patrol_) with the real one?

I mostly just read that as "Grownups are bossy".

If Robotman tells me to do something, I'm gonna do it. He's badass.

Wait...he unscrewed his arm by chewing on it? There's something in there about a dextrous robo-tongue, but I think I'll just let it lie.

Also, this is where Monty Python got the idea.

You'd think Robin would be kind of used to that.

That makes sense. Is the Doom patrol the only adult team we ever see on Teen Titans?

I think it was mainly the writers pushing a "The Brotherhood is really, really nasty, and we've been fighting them for years, and you kids can't possibly handle them alone" sort of vibe, and coming off as bossy grown ups like Len says. I haven't seen the first half of that 2 parter so I can't be sure.

It ends up being the same thing in the comic book (which was a beast Boy surprise birthday party) too.
