The Lost Generation
Jun. 26th, 2006 09:21 pmThe War was going badly. Pinned down in the trenches of the Western Front the Central Powers reached out and made contact with something other. Strange Giants and even crueler creatures from Germanic mythology and mighty djinn that aided the Turks. The Allied Powers faced their darkest moment. And then the breakthrough of 1917. The Salonica Expeditionary Force, pinned down in Greece since 1915, received some fresh new recruits from Oxford who were trained in archaeology and perhaps other strange things. Their mission was clear, raise and contact the Greek Gods to buttress against the depredations of the creatures from the German mythos. Their mission was a success and awoken from their slumber the Greek deities unveiled a new generation of heroes. Mighty warriors, heroes from the legends. These heroes (drawn from many walks of life throughout the Western World) carried the day and the War was won.
The Great War had its toil, and the weary Allies were quick to want to forget the horrors they had been through and great disillusionment meant that heroes were looked upon by suspicion. They had saved the world from Fire and Ice, but now they were looked upon in fear and with suspicion.
The players are these heroes. Children and favorites of the Greek Gods (and other pantheons perhaps) who won the War for the Allied Powers and then were forgotten. The year is 1923 and a new Argonautika has been summoned forth. Take ship with your fellows for there are wonders to be explored and glories to be won. The heroic age may not be over, no matter what the newspapers write.
