Neel does a version of his Casual influence diagram article in this month's issue of Daedalus.

Must be a copy of his student id picture, thats all I'm saying.

That's the one off-putting thing about Daedalus, they have author pictures. I'm not saying that there aren't attactive/handsome people in there (Emily K. Dresner-Thornber looks lovely in her hat), but I get this internal mental image of what people look like and then I see their pictures and I'm like "Gah!". The one exception is Jared Sorensen, who wasn't what I expected, but wasn't too far off either. Oh, and Vincent Baker -- when I met him in person, he looked a lot like what I expected. I dunno what I'm gonna do when I run into Gary Gygax. Right now, I've got this Stan Lee image of him in my head.

If I ever get in there, I'm not letting them do a photo. I may submit some sort of symoblic picture or something. I just don't want people going "Man, that Tom Russell, I always thought he was a sexy bastard but now I realize that I had one adjective too many there. Guess I'll skip his article."

Strange format for an e-zine (why a downloadable PDF with quarterly issues? why not HTML and update as new stuff comes in? is there a print version?), but there's some neat stuff in there.

I didn't know this "Daedalus" thing existed. So the horror of Neel's image has served at least some useful purpose.
