[livejournal.com profile] peaseblossom and I have been watching a lot of television lately.

First was the 1st season of 24, which quite frankly, was rather disappointing. I knew it wasn't quite what I expected in the first episode when there was the airplane exploding scene. But the whole "my family is kidnapped" plotline drove me nuts pretty quikly. I thought it would have been much cooler if it was normal family stress. The presidential conetnder's family plot was good, it should have ben its own show. And it was just way way to convulted. It should have bee 8 hours tops and lost the attempt to be "real time", which it nver was. And towards the end it just got more and more goofy. Plus you never believed for a momet that any of the main characters were ever in danger, so when one actually was it was sort of goofy. I am definitely in no hurry to see any more seasons of this.

Than there was Ultraviolet which was a good police drama with vampires. Well done even if the main character was the dweebish everyman that we're supposed to identify with but really just serves to water the show down. I wanted more of Angela, Vaughn, Pearse. All of whom had interesting pasts and we're well done. Michael was just annoying. But the show still rocked even with a lame main chaarcter and I loved the world.

We watched th first 6 episodes of Dead like me which found to be a cute little teen drama with a twist. Good sense of humor, though the cosmology was not as fleshed out as I would like. I get the feeling I've seen most of what this show is capable so I don't know if I'd rent the rest of the dvds.

Hellboy.....people liked this why? Miserable plot, terrible acting and again the dweebish everyman I'm supposed to identify with but just couldn't. And Rasputin should really stop hiring Gary Gygax to design his underground fortresses. Monsters were probably much better on the big screen.

Yes, the vast sea of media is mere pap for the american hyper-consumer.

However, this should cheer you up:

I needed Snopes to tell me that was real? I read the original.

Though what it has to do with my recent tv watching I'm not sure.

I watched Hellboy last night as well, and I had pretty much the same reaction. I've got pretty low standards for movies, but even I was disappointed by this one.

As [livejournal.com profile] peaseblossom can attest, I have incredibly low standards for watching a movie.

If you really want to waste your time

Watch the 2nd season of 24.

It's too unbelievable for words.

I liked Hellboy because it met my expectations which were:

1.) The BRPD "monsters" were monsters. They didn't make Hellboy into this human with a devil on his t-shirt. They pretty much nailed the make-up for Abe and Hellboy.

2.) Hellboy fights monsters and nazis. No rhyme or reason for it, they just show up and he goes in swinging. Pretty much just like the comics.

It was quite a bit better on the big screen.

Ron Perlman was a great choice for Hellboy. He had swagger, and teenage angst. He was the whole reason I enjoyed the movie.

And doesn't everyone like killing Nazis?
