I just finished reading The Kingdom of Matthias, which is about this interesting cult in the 1830s that involved apocalyptic thought and sex, sort of a smaller scale David Koresh with fewer deaths. A good read but now I really need to find a good history or two on the Second Great Awakening.

I also need to find a good history of Sojourner Truth because I for one never knew she was part of a sex cult.

The classic book is Paul Johnson's own Shopkeeper's Millenium.

Sojourner Truth's sex cult is news to me.

Oh yeah, and the authors were all so clever only discussing her slave name and not teling you who she was until the end.

She probably wasn't involved in the bed room hokie pokie goin on, but she was fuly cognizant of it.
