I got one of his other books, Angels and Demons, from some book of the month club thing and read it. It was a fun book to read, but the characters, writing and dialogue were all a bit too John Grisham-y for my taste. Sort of like fast food reading. Definitely interesting for those of us without a lot of background in such subjects, but it seems that anyone could have done the research and written a novel around it. The characters were very flimsy and stereotypical and some of the dailogue was actually embarrassing to read. I probably won't read The DaVinci Code, since I expect it to be pretty similar writing wise. There's my 2 cents!!

Back before Dan Brown became flavour-of-the-month, cujovaltone ran a Hellboy game based on his stuff. We (the players) didn't know it was nicked from a novel, so we complimented the GM on the cheesy improbability of his dodgy pulp plot...

I will say that there are parts of the DC that are lifted almost word for word from their books; having read both, I was pretty surprised. Not that that means the suit has merit, but, still.

chrislehrich, who has the fascinating priviledge of being the only person I know with a phD in the area, had an interesting point l;ast night when he pointed out that there is a huge difference between being inspired by and just writing a character into an existing book. Which he felt the Da Vinci Code had done. Personally I never got beyond the first chapter so I don't know for sure.

The gossip about Biagent and Leigh was what really fascinated me.
