Power of Labyrinths
I thought of a labyrinth of labyrinths, of one sinuous spreading labyrinth that would encompass the past and the future and in some way involve the stars."

Masons, that’s what your family has always been. And not that freemasonry crap (you think), no honest to god died in the wood masons who were damn good with their hands and built and built deeply; except you. Oh sure you learned the family trade as a kid and teenager but you couldn't wait to get out. You got a scholarship at an East Coast prestigious school and went on to get you doctorate in psychology. You've made a mark n the profession to. Then you came back for a family funeral and you learned that the family trade and your profession might not be as different as you thought.
The labyrinth is not just a difficult path through which it is extremely hazardous to traverse without guidance (though this estate does cover that). Nor is the labyrinth consisting solely of a single meandering pathway that leads inexorably from the entrance to the center. The labyrinth symbolizes that somewhere in the dark pit there must be an almost forgotten center from which, after the ultimate trial containing terror and death, one may find the way out to freedom.
The labyrinth is the omphalos, the sacred center. The labyrinth as ceremonial pathway and as a dancing ground. The twisting, tortuous paths that guard the central goal from direct penetration. The form and geometry of a labyrinth is symbolic as well as spatial, the mirror for the divine.
The estate lends itself to covering any kind of complexity from which it is almost impossible to extricate oneself.
Ceremonial: A character with this Restriction must participate in a certain capacity in certain ceremonies, if at all physically possible. This Restriction gives one MP whenever taking time off for a ritual interferes with the Power's activities, and one MP whenever the Power's role in the ceremonies is particularly painful or troublesome.
Shadow: During your commencement your shadow turned against you. Now it has become your nemesis with abilities of its own. Like any good nemesis, it reconstitutes itself when destroyed.
The flower of Labyrinths is a closed silver flower with a double circle of petals and leaves in groups of three.
By the way,
peaseblossom just made me an icon, she's so sweet.

Estate
The labyrinth is not just a difficult path through which it is extremely hazardous to traverse without guidance (though this estate does cover that). Nor is the labyrinth consisting solely of a single meandering pathway that leads inexorably from the entrance to the center. Weaknesses

Design
The flower of Labyrinths is a closed silver flower with a double circle of petals and leaves in groups of three.

Date: 2004-12-30 07:48 am (UTC)I'm kinda hoping this isn't a typo:
"died in the wood masons"
Because when you factor in the Estate (and getting lost in the woods) as well as the stone/wood thing, the irony is just beautiful.
